About Things to Do in Washington DC

An independent guide to DC. It shows you what is free, what is worth paying for and how to book without surprises.

Who we are

Things to Do in Washington DC is written by the Things to Do in Washington DC editorial team. We are not a tour company. We don't sell tours or tickets ourselves. We compare the DC tours on GetYourGuide and point you to the one that fits.

How we pick tours

  • Live data. Price, length, group size, meeting point and cancellation terms come from each tour's live page on GetYourGuide. We don't write them from memory.
  • Rating and reviews. We show the rating and the number of reviews as GetYourGuide shows them. We never round them up. We prefer a tour with many reviews over a perfect score from a few. Where there are only a few, we say so.
  • Free first. Many big sights in DC are free. Capitol tours are free. So are White House tours, which you ask for through a Member of Congress. Entry to the National Archives is free too. When a tour sells you a free ticket or a set time slot, we say so. Then we say what the tour adds, such as a guide or a fixed time.
  • Refunds, said plainly. Tours with free cancellation come first. A tour you can't get your money back for is marked "Non-refundable". We give the cancellation terms of each tour, not one general rule.
  • Honest about ratings. A tour rated under 4.0 gets a note that says so. We never call it the best.
  • Low-rated tours left off. When a tour has a very low rating from only a few reviews, we leave it out.

Where the facts come from

Tour prices, lengths and ratings come from GetYourGuide. We checked them on 25 October 2026. Opening times, official prices and fares come from the official sites of the sights, museums and transit companies. Each page links to them. Hotels were checked on Booking.com. Prices change, so the booking page always has the final word.
